I’m Wendy. Designer, renter, and living proof that a home doesn’t have to be yours to feel like yours.
Last year my life changed completely. After many years as a homeowner I found myself starting over — new chapter, new partner, new rental home. At 51 I was back to magnolia walls, landlord carpets, and a list of things I wasn’t allowed to change.
What I wasn’t expecting was how much it would matter. How much the space around you affects how you feel every single day. How easy it is to put your life on hold when you tell yourself it’s only temporary.
I decided not to do that.
The design knowledge. The renter reality. Both.
I’m a qualified interior designer — I hold an OCN Level 3 Professional Interior Design Diploma from the National Design Academy. But there’s a difference between knowing the theory and actually living the reality of renting.
Now I do both. And that combination is what makes The Temporary Home different.
Everything I share here comes from real experience — the deposit anxiety, the awkward landlord conversations, the creative problem solving when you can’t touch the walls. I know what works because I’m doing it myself, in my own rental home, right now.
Life in phase two
Life looks different to what I imagined it would at this point. It’s messier, more honest, and in many ways more exciting. I share my home with my partner Ben and my daughter Angelina, and I’m building something I genuinely love doing for the first time in a long time.
The Temporary Home started as a way to help renters feel less stuck. It’s grown into something that feels very much like mine — which is exactly the point.
You’re in the right place if…
You’re renting and refusing to put your life on hold. You want your home to feel intentional and beautiful — not like a waiting room. You’re tired of advice that assumes you can paint the walls or rip up the carpets.
Welcome. Let’s make your temporary home feel permanent.
